The ostrich, (Struthio camelus), is the largest living bird and is found only in Africa. Adult males can reach up to 2.75 metres (about 9 feet) in height, with almost half of that being neck. They can weigh more than 150 kg (330 pounds). Females are slightly smaller. Ostriches are flightless birds and are found in open country in Africa. They are known for their long necks and legs, and their ability to run at speeds of up to 70 km/h (43 mph). Ostriches are omnivorous and eat a variety of plants, seeds, and insects. They are also known to eat small animals, such as lizards and rodents.
