A Journey through Untamed Wilderness

Namibia, a land of breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife, invites you to explore its natural wonders. Whether you embark on a self-drive adventure or join an escorted small group tour, Namibia promises an unforgettable experience.

Discover the towering dunes of the Namib Desert, where the wind shapes the landscape into ever-changing masterpieces. Encounter the remarkable wildlife of Etosha National Park, home to lions, desert-adapted elephants, and the unique Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. Immerse yourself in the hauntingly beautiful Kalahari Desert, a vast expanse of arid plains and shimmering salt pans. And don't miss the Skeleton Coast, a legendary stretch of coastline where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Our Quick Guide to Namibia

Getting Around Namibia:

We highly recommend self-driving, as it's the best way to see the country. Generally, the roads are good and drives can be long, so break up your journey in charming towns or incredible beauty spots along the way. We suggest hiring a larger car for the longer journeys, for a more comfortable experience. We offer a selection of car hire vehicles geared towards the road and travel conditions in Namibia.

Of course not everyone feels comfortable driving themselves in a foreign country and for that reason we offer a range of guided experiences and can arrange for transfers, domestic flights or even small group tours if that’s your preference. We firmly believe that a holiday is about enjoyment and it’s important that you do exactly what you’ll enjoy.

See our Self-Drive and Transfers sections for detailed information and what options you can choose from.

We generally use smaller, owner-run properties whenever possible. We believe this provides a more personal experience, and working with smaller properties allows us to better understand your holiday preferences. We also tend to choose trusted partners with a similar ethos to ours.

Lodges in wilderness locations offer a more rustic experience. Many are in remote areas and may not have the facilities of larger hotels. However, we choose wisely, prioritising the luxury of experience over unnecessary amenities. We carefully rate hotels and lodges using our "Tent Rating", which takes in the overall accommodation offering, service and quality of experience. See a description of the rating in each accommodation listing.

  • Dry season (May–September): considered the best time to visit Namibia for safaris and game viewing. The weather is warm and sunny during the day, but it can get cold at night.

  • Shoulder months (April, October): These months offer mild weather and fewer fellow travellers.

  • Summer rains (November–April): These turn the country green and can sometimes cause flooding in the desert. November is the start of prime bird-watching.

Lodges typically work on what we refer to as "Safari All Inclusive", where the offering in most cases includes two drives per day (morning and afternoon), additional activities particular to the area, the game experience and topography, such as walking safaris or nature explorations, spoor tracking, hide visits, etc. All meals are included, and some lodges include drinks (soft, wines, spirits) excluding premium brands.

The day typically starts early with coffee/tea and a snack breakfast, followed by a game or nature drive, hearty breakfast or brunch back at the lodge and then time to relax. The afternoon drive usually departs late afternoon and concludes with a sundowner on the way back. Aim to arrive in time for an afternoon game drive and leave after your morning drive on departure day.
