Discover the Majestic Lions of the Okavango Delta

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is home to a unique population of lions, significantly larger and stronger than their counterparts elsewhere in Africa. Males can weigh up to 250 kg and stand 1.2 m tall at the shoulder, while females reach up to 180 kg and 1.1 m. This impressive size is attributed to the abundance of prey (wildebeest, zebra, impala, buffalo) and the absence of human hunting or persecution, allowing them to thrive in a pristine environment.

Exceptional Size & Strength

Lions in the Okavango Delta are considerably larger and stronger than average, a testament to the health of their ecosystem.

Abundant Prey Base

The Delta boasts a rich diversity of prey animals, providing ample food for these apex predators.

Untouched Habitat

The lack of human interference allows the lions to live and reproduce without fear of hunting or habitat destruction.
