Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a serious crime in Botswana. Section 46(1) of the Road Traffic Act (Cap. 69:02) makes it an offense to drive while unfit due to alcohol or drugs. Penalties are severe and can include hefty fines, imprisonment, and license suspension.
First Offense
Fine up to P50,000 or imprisonment for up to two years.
Second Offense
Fine up to P100,000 or imprisonment for up to four years.
License Suspension
