This camp is located in the heart of the Rocklands, in the northernmost part of the Cederberg Wilderness Area. Known for its dramatic wind-carved sandstone formations, vibrant springtime flowers, and ancient rock art, the rugged Cederberg landscape is a place of unique natural beauty.

Nestled between striking rock faces and picturesque vineyards in the Agter-Pakhuis Valley, the 10 fully equipped boutique glamping tents welcome nature lovers, adventure seekers and those simply looking to recharge their batteries. There are multiple hiking trails between boulders across the property with welcome sights of rock pools and a waterfall on the property, and walks with San rock art in the area. If you're lucky, you might even spot the elusive Verreaux's eagle, nesting high against the cliffs. A scenic drive to the top section of the farm (accessible only with a 4x4 vehicle) takes you to 60 hectares of rooibos tea lands, 260 hectares of unspoiled fynbos gorges blooming with wildflowers in season, and a rock cave - the perfect spot for a picnic. Alternatively, take a more laid-back approach and spend the day at the camp swimming in the farm dam, or sipping some fine wines at the winery next door.

Situated at the entrance gate to the Namib Naukluft Park, the lodge offers direct access to the towering red sand dunes, the famous pan of Sossusvlei, the scorched black trees of Dead Vlei and the remarkable depths of the Sesriem Canyon. Shaded by camel thorn trees, the Lodge blends in perfectly with the spectacular desert surroundings. The rooms feature a patio to enjoy views over the desert landscapes, a spacious air-conditioned twin-bedded room and a full en-suite bathroom. The family rooms feature two rooms back-to-back connected by a door between the two private bathrooms. Facilities include a swimming pool, bar, sundowner deck, beer garden and an al fresco terrace where you can enjoy your dinner with a glass of wine and magnificent views of the floodlit waterhole. The adventure centre provides a range of activities including guided excursions to Deadvlei and Sossusvlei, Elim dune walks, sundowner trips, hot air ballooning, scenic flights, nature walks and much more. There's a chance of spotting everything from oryx and black-backed jackal to bat-eared fox and wildebeest; at night, you might get the odd hyena exploring around the camp. The views over the red dunes, crisp grassy plains and mountain ranges that change colour at sunset are the highlights of a stay here.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.
