● Wood-fired hot tub (at selected camps)
● Outdoor BBQ area
● Tents accommodate up to 5 guests and are ideal for families and groups of friends.
● At each camp you can order a breakfast basket, BBQ basket and firewood at additional cost.

Champagne Valley is located in the Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal. The mountain range stretches an impressive 190 miles between Lesotho and down through KwaZulu-Natal. The sheer scale of the Drakensberg can only be experienced first-hand, whether you seek the reward of the views from the top or are perfectly happy unwinding to the views of the mountains in the distance.

It's a hiker's paradise, with the popular Monk's Cowl entrance to the Maloti-Drakensberg National Park only a short distance from the camp. Apart from hiking, the area boasts an array of other outdoor activities including birding, mountain biking trails, hot air ballooning, ziplining, horse riding, golfing, beer tasting, and chocolate tasting. On the farm, explore the forest where various bird species can be spotted, unwind at the eco farm pool soaking up the mountain views, or recharge from the comfort of your private outdoor wood-fired hot tub.

The Drakensberg is home to the highest mountain peaks in the country and has been declared a World Heritage site. The flat-topped Cathkin Peak (3,149 m) and Champagne Castle (3,248 m) are two of these peaks, and the valley below it is referred to as Champagne Valley.

Sitting beneath giant ebony trees, Camp Moremi brings true meaning to the word safari in the Xakanaxa area of the Moremi Game Reserve. Game drives take place in open 4x4 vehicles, both in the morning and late afternoons, there are frequent sightings of lions, leopards and cheetahs as well as wild dogs. All have decks with views over the reserve and Wi-Fi in the bedrooms only. You’ll also find a swimming pool with a lovely sun deck and a restaurant. A sunken bar built around an old termite mound is just the place to share tales of your adventures.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, boat trips and bird watching. The guides will use their knowledge to help you get the most out of your visit, hopefully, you’ll see herds of elephants grazing or a pride of lions camouflaged in the long grass, the list is almost endless.

Camp Moremi

Moremi Game Reserve

Set in a classic African savanna environment with sweeping views, the focal point of the lodge is a thatched open-sided main building which commands breath taking panoramas over the Chobe River and beyond the Chobe National Park. With just 12 en-suite guest rooms, you are sure of a very special stay here.

Located on the Namibian side of the Chobe River, overlooking the renowned Puku Flatts, the lodge offers a remote Chobe River experience. You can enjoy the exceptional wildlife that frequents the riverbanks on morning and afternoon boat cruises. Ideal for wildlife photographers and birders, fishing and visits to the local community are also on offer.

Each thatched chalet has air conditioning, a fan, a safe, tea and coffee-making facilities and a deck, activities include bird watching, boating, fishing, game drives and walks as well as cultural visits to local communities. There are attractive gardens to explore and a swimming pool for a refreshing dip between activities.

Chobe Savannah Lodge

Caprivi Strip opposite Chobe

This is the only permanent game lodge on the banks of the Chobe River in the famous Chobe National Park. It’s a great base for exploring the park, although this is a larger lodge you have plenty of space to relax and enjoy your surroundings. The deck is a good place to relax and watch the procession of wildlife as it passes by, it’s like a safari without leaving your lodge.
The rooms are all air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans, a minibar, an en-suite bathroom and a terrace. There is a swimming pool, gym and spa treatments can be organised with the in-house beautician.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, bird watching and boat trips. Unlike any other water-based activity in Botswana, the game viewing while on a river safari in Chobe is unsurpassed. Elephants line the water’s edge, hippos congregate in lagoons, hundreds of antelope and giraffes make their way to the water and sightings of predators along the riverbanks are common. The riverboats are designed to ensure everyone can take in the magnificent views in complete comfort from anywhere on the boat. Owing to the flexibility in seating arrangements and the flat deck, the boats are ideal for keen wildlife photographers, with ample space for equipment and the freedom to photograph from any angle.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.
