Moremi Game Reserve

Located in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, the camp is set on the banks of the pristine Khwai River that overlooks the Xakanaxa Lagoon. It blends harmoniously with nature. Set on raised wooden platforms under the shade of towering trees, Xakanaxa’s thatched dining room, lounge/bar area, curio shop, fire deck and new swimming pool provide a restful sanctuary with magnificent river views.

Situated on the fringes of the lagoon, each tented suite has a private viewing deck with comfortable loungers. There a several dining areas, both indoor and out, along with a self-service bar, a swimming pool and sun deck.

The forests, open savanna, serpentine channels as well as seasonal floodplains which surround the camp, make for a varied habitat of exceptional fauna and flora and the camp is one of few offering a year-round land and water game viewing experience in open game drive vehicles and motorised boats. The diverse habitat ensures prolific sightings of elephant, buffalo, wild dog, hyenas, giraffe, hippo, wildebeest, kudu, lechwe, lion, leopard and cheetah, amongst others. Birding is spectacular, especially in the spring and summer months when the migrant species are breeding.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.

High in both quality and luxury of experience, and property must have ‘wowed’ us on many levels.

This is our benchmark for excellent service and experience, location and /or activities.

Don’t be put off, these stays are comfortable and a perfect pit stop on a journey where the choices may be limited.
