Cherero Camp

Cherero Camp

Central Serengeti

The camp is located at Musabi Plains, a largely undiscovered gem located in a secluded area west of Central Serengeti. Accessed by a short flight from Arusha to Seronera and then a 90-minute drive. Cherero is the Swahili word for the Fischer’s lovebirds that are native to north-central Tanzania.

The six spacious and luxurious tents have a total indoor living area of 50 square metres, and an outdoor private veranda and each has a distinctive African flavour to the interior, with ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom. Mindful of the environment, there is no swimming pool or baths but, instead, wonderful rain showers with water heated by solar power from the Tanzanian sunshine. Enjoy the sights and the sounds of the bush from the comfort of your bed! Your day is a blend of relaxation and excitement, with distinct experiences designed to celebrate the different stages of the day:

- Morning: from the privacy of your rooms, watch the magnificent sounds of the Serengeti waking up to a new day. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in your suite – just the way you like it!
- Daytime: Safari your style with your private vehicle and guide. Choose a game drive, birdwatching, walking safari, bush meals, or spend time chatting with fellow guests and the Tanzanian camp team.
- Sundown: Chase the sunset through the Serengeti with your private driver and guide, and enjoy a sunset drink as darkness quickly takes over Africa, before heading back to the camp for a hot shower and some rest.
- Night time: Cherero is known for its culinary journeys, and dinners are an exquisite blend of the finest local ingredients and fine wines. Turn into your luxurious suite for the night, to await the next sunrise and start a new day in the Serengeti.

Activities include game drives which are tailored to your requirements, and walking safaris, there are also some traditional board games at the camp for the downtime between wildlife adventures. The Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest go in search of green pastures, can be seen in May and June and again from September to December.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.
