This charming, small and friendly guest house is located in a quiet residential part of Durban and is the ideal place to start your adventures in KwaZulu-Natal. You're just a short distance from plenty of restaurants and a little more than 10 minutes from Durban's vibrant beachfront. Often overlooked, Durban is a city by the sea which offers plenty of attractions for the visitor and the hotel will be happy to help with ideas. You'll find a swimming pool and a lovely deck where breakfast is served and if you've had a busy day there a plenty of spots to relax with a good novel and a refreshing drink. 

The rooms are attractively furnished in period style and all have air conditioning, television as well as tea and coffee making facilities.

Standing majestically on a lone ridge, 300 meters above the banks of the Karawari River and overlooking an endless expanse of dense tropical lowland rain forest the lodge sits in one of the most remote and un-spoilt destinations in Papua New Guinea, the lodges private airstrip and the Karawari River being the only way in or out. Stilted villages line the edges of flooded waterways and dugout canoes are the primary mode of transport. There is a dining and lounge area, 'Puk Puk' Bar and a vast collection of Sepik artifacts are around the lodge which is designed in the form of a traditional 'haus tambaran' or spirit house. The awe-inspiring view at dusk has to be experienced to be believed. The lodge arranges river excursions in 18-seat motorized jet boats to the surrounding villages where you visit traditional homes, witness ceremonial dances and celebrations and are honoured with a glimpse traditional life. Accommodation is in 10 cottages, each built out of local bush materials. Each one has two private twin rooms, each with modern en-suite bathrooms, and a communal veranda. Despite its remoteness, the lodge has electricity, hot & cold water, comfortable mosquito-netted beds, ceiling fans, and a breezy veranda.

The Sepik Spirit is a 9-room river cruise boat with a unique design inspired be the local architecture of the spirit house. This one of a kind cruise ship is used to take guests on a voyage along the waterways of Papua New Guinea's Sepik region. Thus, allowing for the unique opportunity to journey into remote villages that could not otherwise be reached on day trips. You will disembark the boat each day, where time will be spent visiting the spirit houses, family homes and important places in the villages and hearing about the traditional rituals, warfare, initiation ceremonies and ancestral beliefs. The tribes of this region express their beliefs and creativity through the creation of unique and beautiful tribal art, such as masks, flutes, drums and spirit figures. You will have the opportunity to view and purchase arts from the small village markets. The Sepik Spirit has nine-rooms with ensuite bathrooms, dining room and air conditioner. Typical cruises are 3 to 4 nights in length. It is accessible by charter flights that operate in/out of the Karawari airstrip and from Rondon Ridge & Ambua Lodge. Charter flights from other departure points can be arranged.

Located on the coastline of Blanche Bay with views of volcanoes, New Ireland and the Duke of York Islands. This idyllic corner of the country has a great mix of things to do, from land-based WWII historical tours to boat trips to see the Duke of York Islands where you might see pods of spinner dolphins along the way. There is a main restaurant and bar, swimming pool, spa and easy access to the beach, there lots of activities you can book don't miss the Baining Fire Dance, quite spectacular and this is the only place you can witness it. There are 3 different room all with similar facilities such as television, mini fridge, safes, balconies and they are air conditioned.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​
