Kruger Untamed

Kruger National Park

This is the Kruger National Park's first-ever seasonal tented camp concession and operates in the South African winter months, between 01 May and 30 September. There are two extraordinary locations Tshokwane River Camp and Satara Plains Camp tucked away in the game-rich part of the park amid the untamed beauty of "lion country". Each camp has 30 canvassed suites with en-suite facilities featuring butler-fed hot showers and you'll go to sleep to the sounds of the wild in your comfortable bed. Tents have electrical sockets for charging devices. Tshokwane River Camp is located by the Ripape River, it showcases diverse birdlife and animals and is located in a dry river bed and has a swimming pool.

Satara Plains Camp is nestled near the renowned Satara rest camp, in a land teeming with lion population, embracing the vibrant culture of the Ama Shangaan people in its design. You'll enjoy hearty, nourishing cuisine and swap tales of your adventures around the camp, whichever camp you choose you can be sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. All meals, afternoon teas and coffees daily are included, along with soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers. Two game drives daily in open safari vehicles or daily guided walking safaris with a rifled ranger.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.

High in both quality and luxury of experience, and property must have ‘wowed’ us on many levels.

This is our benchmark for excellent service and experience, location and /or activities.

Good relative value, excellent location and/or experience, and offering an ideal base for exploring the area.

Budget-focused stopover property, sometimes it’s the ideal location on a driving itinerary.

Don’t be put off, these stays are comfortable and a perfect pit stop on a journey where the choices may be limited.
