This camp has earned itself a strong reputation over recent years and for very good reason; it was completely re-modelled in 2018 and the rooms are large with a modern, almost minimalist feel to them, but with a distinctive feel of the bush. Each one is open and airy with great views of the Zambezi and a private plunge pool on the deck in front.

The camp comprises 7 luxury rooms and the Kigelia House which is of the same style but is a 2-roomed unit with a shared sitting / dining area between the two bedrooms. 

The pristine Lower Zambezi National Park is superb and big game such as elephant, hippo, buffalo and big cats are seen regularly in and around the camp! This is a very exclusive camp where the emphasis is on making sure the guests are well looked after.

Activities include the usual game drives and walks as well as all the river activities. The camp is very close to the Chifungulu channel which is ideal for canoeing.

"Safari All Inclusive" is all meals and drinks (excluding premium brands). Varying lodge to lodge, this mostly consists of an early snack breakfast before 1st game drive, full breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or cakes, dinner and drinks and snacks on game drives. Located in one of the small streets of the bustling heart of Stone Town you find The Swahili House. Originally set up and used as an Indian merchant house in the 19th century. In the 125 years that followed the building became a home to one of the many Sultan families that inhabited Zanzibar. The hotel has been restored to its original state, giving you a real Zanzibari experience! There are 16 deluxe rooms and 6 suites, all have air conditioning and fan, safe and deluxe rooms have a roof terrace. Staying here is like travelling back in with views of historic Stone Town and the narrow alleyways there are to explore. You’ll experience a fusion of cultures, Omani, Persian, African and European. The streets are crammed with tiny stalls selling crafts, antiques and more, discover markets laden with Zanzibar’s famous spices, cardamon, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. High above the streets of Stone Town there is an airy rooftop where you’ll find the bar and restaurant area. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, a cocktail or dinner while indulging in stunning views of the old town and the Swahili coastline. The rooftop terrace also has a relaxing plunge pool and sundeck area, overlooking the Indian Ocean.

To ensure a private and relaxing environment, the lodge accommodates just twenty-four guests in eleven thatched chalets built of local timber, and one family room which consists of two double bedrooms. The chalets are elegantly furnished in calm neutral tones to blend with the natural environment and feature private decks, a combined bedroom and lounge area and en-suite facilities. There’s also a shaded viewing deck, an al fresco dining area and a swimming pool with spectacular pool loungers, ideal for watching the varied wildlife, including the resident elephants, as they make their way to the Channel to drink, bathe and play. Activities are organised around game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. Many trips will incorporate a visit to the Savute Marsh to give you a chance to see the historic presence of the Savute Channel. against a backdrop of teeming wildlife. There is also excellent bird watching to be enjoyed. You’ll also have the chance to visit the San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills, a small hilly outcrop which forms a prominent landmark.

Located in Makgadikgadi Pans, this is a permanent camp that provides you with a unique experience in the Makgadikgadi Pans. This salt pan situated in the middle of the dry savanna of north-eastern Botswana is one of the largest salt flats in the world. This breathtakingly beautiful location is both savage and glorious. Jack’s Camp is a classic desert safari camp accommodating 20 guests in 10 enormous walk-in tents, each with an en suite shower, private plunge pool, and bed cooling system and are luxuriously appointed, but maintain the style and character of the Makgadikgadi. Facilities include a mess tent for dining, a tea tent with Persian carpet cushions for socialising, a swimming pool pavilion, spa treatments and a gift shop tent. The camp's roots date back to the 1960s when namesake Jack Bousfield, a true character in his own right, stumbled upon a place so incredible that it captivated him for the remainder of his life. He never left the site and stayed until his death in the early 1990s. Following this, Jack’s son, Ralph, started Jack’s Camp and recreated the venue in the traditional safari style of the 1940s era. Activities include interaction with a family of meerkats who are regular visitors, and viewing the desert wildlife such as the gemsbok, springbok and more. You’ll also have the chance to meet the indigenous San people who have survived in this seemingly inhospitable land for many centuries.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.
