This charming hotel has been created from two historic buildings on the seafront of the capital Stone Town. Much of the original architecture has been retained, giving you a feel of the feel of bygone days. The whole of Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and exploring its winding streets is a must. You’ll find a swimming pool, a fabulous rooftop terrace restaurant with views of the bay and the bar is a great place to enjoy traditional music when there’s a visiting band. The friendly staff and bright décor make this a popular place to stay before or after a safari. You’ll find a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and gift shop, if you don’t want to head into town there is a restaurant which is known for its Tanzanian dishes as well as international-style food. There’s a pool bar and lounge bar if you fancy a tipple. The 29 rooms are all slightly different in terms of style, size and décor but all have air conditioning, television, and room safe and are well equipped for your pre or post-safari stay.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​
