Enticingly close to the Mara River where the wildebeest herds make their annual journey in search of greener pasture, Aurari Camp offers a sanctuary amid the wilds of the Serengeti. It’s just a short 45-minute flight from Arusha to Kogatende airstrip where the camp staff will meet you from your chartered light aircraft flight and drive you to the camp.

The six spacious tents have a total indoor living area of 50 square metres, with a spacious bedroom in the centre, a lounge area wing and a bathroom wing, plus an outdoor private veranda. Each has a distinctive African flavour to the interior. They have ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom and, being mindful of the environment, there is no swimming pool or baths but instead you can enjoy wonderful rain showers with water heated by solar power from the Tanzanian sunshine. You can even see the sunrise from the comfort of your bed! Your day is a blend of relaxation and excitement, with distinct experiences designed to celebrate the different stages of the day:

- Morning: from the privacy of your own rooms, watch the magnificent sunrise, before indulging in a scrumptious breakfast – just the way you like it!
- Daytime: Safari your style with your private vehicle and guide. Choose a game drive, birdwatching, walking safari, bush meals, or balloon safari!
- Sundown: A magical time in the bush, and after a hot shower and some rest, some nibbles, snacks and the company of your fellow camp guests.
- Night time: Enjoy dinner under the African stars, accompanied by the sounds of campfire, with delicious food and wine, before turning into your luxurious tented suite and being serenaded to sleep by the sounds of the night time occupants of the Serengeti.

With a northerly aspect towards the Mara River in Northern Serengeti and neighbouring Maasai Mara, the views are fabulous. Perfect as a base for Great Migration (July – October), safaris or a retreat away from it all, the camp offers exceptional hospitality in the heart of the Serengeti.

Located in one of the small streets of the bustling heart of Stone Town you find The Swahili House. Originally set up and used as an Indian merchant house in the 19th century. In the 125 years that followed the building became a home to one of the many Sultan families that inhabited Zanzibar. The hotel has been restored to its original state, giving you a real Zanzibari experience! There are 16 deluxe rooms and 6 suites, all have air conditioning and fan, safe and deluxe rooms have a roof terrace. Staying here is like travelling back in with views of historic Stone Town and the narrow alleyways there are to explore. You’ll experience a fusion of cultures, Omani, Persian, African and European. The streets are crammed with tiny stalls selling crafts, antiques and more, discover markets laden with Zanzibar’s famous spices, cardamon, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. High above the streets of Stone Town there is an airy rooftop where you’ll find the bar and restaurant area. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, a cocktail or dinner while indulging in stunning views of the old town and the Swahili coastline. The rooftop terrace also has a relaxing plunge pool and sundeck area, overlooking the Indian Ocean.

To ensure a private and relaxing environment, the lodge accommodates just twenty-four guests in eleven thatched chalets built of local timber, and one family room which consists of two double bedrooms. The chalets are elegantly furnished in calm neutral tones to blend with the natural environment and feature private decks, a combined bedroom and lounge area and en-suite facilities. There’s also a shaded viewing deck, an al fresco dining area and a swimming pool with spectacular pool loungers, ideal for watching the varied wildlife, including the resident elephants, as they make their way to the Channel to drink, bathe and play. Activities are organised around game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. Many trips will incorporate a visit to the Savute Marsh to give you a chance to see the historic presence of the Savute Channel. against a backdrop of teeming wildlife. There is also excellent bird watching to be enjoyed. You’ll also have the chance to visit the San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills, a small hilly outcrop which forms a prominent landmark.

Located in Makgadikgadi Pans, this is a permanent camp that provides you with a unique experience in the Makgadikgadi Pans. This salt pan situated in the middle of the dry savanna of north-eastern Botswana is one of the largest salt flats in the world. This breathtakingly beautiful location is both savage and glorious. Jack’s Camp is a classic desert safari camp accommodating 20 guests in 10 enormous walk-in tents, each with an en suite shower, private plunge pool, and bed cooling system and are luxuriously appointed, but maintain the style and character of the Makgadikgadi. Facilities include a mess tent for dining, a tea tent with Persian carpet cushions for socialising, a swimming pool pavilion, spa treatments and a gift shop tent. The camp's roots date back to the 1960s when namesake Jack Bousfield, a true character in his own right, stumbled upon a place so incredible that it captivated him for the remainder of his life. He never left the site and stayed until his death in the early 1990s. Following this, Jack’s son, Ralph, started Jack’s Camp and recreated the venue in the traditional safari style of the 1940s era. Activities include interaction with a family of meerkats who are regular visitors, and viewing the desert wildlife such as the gemsbok, springbok and more. You’ll also have the chance to meet the indigenous San people who have survived in this seemingly inhospitable land for many centuries.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​
