Chundu Island

Chundu Island

Victoria Falls

Perhaps Chundu’s best asset is its location. Chundu Island is located in the heart of the Zambezi National Park, only 21 km from Zimbabwe’s majestic Victoria Falls. The island is superbly positioned on the Zambezi River and only accessible by boat.

In contrast with the hustle and bustle of Vic Falls, a town that caters to both the adrenaline junkies and the curious, indulge instead in deliciously chilled island life.  Chundu Island is a lodge with sole access to the beautiful 1.4 km long island on the mighty Zambezi River, and is a completely different way of experiencing both river life and the Victoria Falls.

There is a lot to do both on the water and on land:  Glorious sunset cruises with snacks and cocktails, the contrasting thrill and peace of canoeing on the river, bird watching, fishing, visiting Victoria Falls, exciting game drives and bush walks in the Zambezi National Park, all under the direction and care of professional and experienced guides.

The lodge is built in among the trees and has spacious rooms with fabulous views over the river into the Zambezi National Park or the banks of the river on the Zambian side. All rooms are attractively furnished and have outdoor shower and a deck with views over the river. There’s a restaurant and bar, swimming pool and plenty space to relax between adventures.

The lodge is an intimate luxury safari camp perched on the northern boundary of Botswana's Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Travel to a wild world where there’s a colourful array of birds and herds of graceful antelope, as well as Kalahari black-maned lions roam.

Dinaka’s private reserve hugs the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, host to classic Kalahari predators and prey. Lose yourself in the fossilised river valleys, golden grasses, and blue skies in the world's second-largest wildlife reserve.

There are only seven raised safari tents with stunning views, there’s also a larger family tent which can sleep up to five. All the tents feature en-suite bathrooms and are tastefully decorated. The raised tents are connected by wooden platforms, making getting around easy. The public area consists of a beautifully appointed lounge area and dining room, where you can mingle with your friends and fellow guests. If you are staying for 3 nights, ask us about the option to sleep out under the stars – a truly magical experience, enjoying the views of the spectacular night sky accompanied by the sounds of the desert’s inhabitants.

The birdwatching here is excellent, walking safaris in the reserve allow you to see the reserve from the point of view of the resident species and the camp’s underground hide allows you to get very close to the passing wildlife for that perfect photo. With your guide, discover animal tracks, spot small reptiles, and learn about smaller mammal species like bat-eared foxes and honey badgers. After watching a beautiful pink and orange African sunset, head out on a night drive to spot the nocturnal game and hear the calls of the wild.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.
