KaingU Safari Lodge

KaingU Safari Lodge

Namwala Game Management Area

Set in an area of pristine wilderness, the lodge offers a magnificent safari experience in the heart of Kafue National Park. This owner-run lodge offers comfortable accommodation, a warm welcome and a unique place to stay for experiencing the ‘real’ Zambia and to enjoy the wildlife and scenery.

Set on raised individual private wooden decks, each overlooking the Kafue River, the Lodge comprises 6 double Meru-style tents with en suite bathrooms, indoor showers and an open-air shower. The “Honeymoon-tent” has an additional outside bath. Every tent is additionally roofed with thatch to provide extra shade and further blend into nature. The family house consists of 2 bedrooms (one queen, one twin), 2 en-suite bathrooms, an outside shower and a central living area opening onto a private deck overlooking the river. It’s a perfect spot for a couple with children or a small group of friends.

Another experience is to sleep in a Tonga Tree Basket, which provides a unique and secure night under the stars close to nature. Seasonally set in trees at stunning river locations, you fall asleep and wake up to the relaxing sounds of the Kafue. Enjoy a night out individually, or with your group of up to six. To answer everyone’s first question, besides the bucket ‘bathroom’, there is an ash-pit drum toilet. Alternatively, the camp manages several campsites in the area – ask us for details.

The camp also does special dining experiences where you can have your breakfast on an island on the way back from your game drive, or even dinner around the fire watching the sun go down and listening to the sounds of the rapids.

The camp’s activities are plentiful and, as well as game drives there are boat safaris, canoe trips, young adventurers’ activities, out-of-camp-dining, walking safaris, community visits and fishing.

Bayeti Game Lodge

Victoria Falls

The hotel is a unique designer bed and breakfast located just 2.5 km from Victoria Falls town and just 3 km from the iconic waterfall. Stylish décor and with just 8 rooms the small and intimate nature of the hotel makes it one of our favourites in the area. Being in the quiet and leafy suburbs it’s close to all the restaurants and activities in the area and is just a few minutes taxi ride into town.

All the rooms have air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, safe other facilities include a separate lounge and dining room, with views over the pool and gardens. As well as the public spaces there are plenty of private, and beautiful nooks to relax and recharge in throughout the main building and gardens. The beautiful décor is all locally sourced from artisans in Zimbabwe and the wallpaper has a distinctly African theme.

The crowning glory is the rooftop bar ‘Treetops’ with spectacular views to the ribbon of the Zambezi and Zambia beyond. Sip a gin and tonic as you witness one of our astounding sunsets and watch the lights of Livingstone and the stars emerge. ‘Treetops’ is operated on an honesty policy and has tea and coffee facilities.

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.

High in both quality and luxury of experience, and property must have ‘wowed’ us on many levels.

This is our benchmark for excellent service and experience, location and /or activities.

Good relative value, excellent location and/or experience, and offering an ideal base for exploring the area.

Budget-focused stopover property, sometimes it’s the ideal location on a driving itinerary.

Don’t be put off, these stays are comfortable and a perfect pit stop on a journey where the choices may be limited.
