Located on the banks of the Shire River, Mkulumadzi Lodge has 8 stunning chalets where you can relax and fall under the spell of the sights & sounds of the river, in the heart of Majete Wildlife Reserve. The lodge lies at the confluence of two rivers and is ideal for discovering the areas wildlife. There’s a restaurant with indoor and outdoor areas, swimming pool and viewing deck. The lodge has a sleep-out Star Bed, located in a secluded spot. With just 8 chalets the small and intimate camp is ideal for discovering this part of the country.

The reserve is one of the greatest success stories of African conservation. Located in the south of Malawi in 70,000 hectares of and part of the great Rift Valley.

With a good mix of wildlife, the lodge offers Big 5 game viewing in a delightful setting.

Located in the malaria-free Eastern Cape, Pumba Private Game Reserve offers chance of "Big Five" game drives. The reserve has been at the forefront of wildlife reintroduction in the region and is home to the rare white lion and leopard. There are two lodges in the reserve, each with its own facilities. Water Lodge and Bush Lodge have similar facilities including sun deck and swimming pool, a lounge and restaurant. Water Lodge rooms have views over the lake. As well as game drives there are also bush walks, stargazing, bird watching and a spa if you need a little pampering. The rooms at both lodges are attractively furnished, air conditioned and have their own deck and plunge pool. Each has a slightly different feel and is located in a different part of the reserve.

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.​

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.
