Montagu Country Hotel

Montagu Country Hotel

Montagu

This charming period hotel will take you back to the Art Deco era, painstakingly restored by the owners it makes the ideal base to explore the region. There is plenty to do, so if you choose to stay for a few nights, you won’t be disappointed. There’s been a hotel on the site since 1875, the current building went up in the 1930’s.

The art deco-styled rooms are located in the main building and are individually styled with period furniture, and modern comforts like air conditioning, tea and coffee-making facilities, television and Wi-Fi. There is an excellent restaurant and a spa and within a short walk, there are plenty of things to do, like exploring the art and arts & crafts stores and visiting cafes, restaurants and specialist wine shops.

Montagu lies between the beautiful Langeberg Mountains on Route 62, the famous driving route. It’s an ideal pitstop between the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route, and close to the Robertson Wine Valley and the Breede River Valley.

One of the many fun things to do is explore the area in the comfort of a classic American car, choose from vintage Cadillac and discover the Winelands in style, if you’ve had a session in the spa you’ll look like a movie star too!

How our Tent Ratings work

These are based on our personal experience of the hotel, camp or lodge and should not be compared against ratings you find elsewhere. We intend to guide you and don’t be put off by a low tent rating as some of our favourites fall into the 2 and 3-tent categories.

It is also important to bear in mind that standards vary from country to country and a 4-tent hotel in South Africa cannot be compared with a 4-tent hotel in another part of the world.

To summarise our grading system, we have considered the following.
