Young Travelers, Big Health: Why Pre-Trip Prep Matters

Planning a family adventure is thrilling, but amidst the packing lists and itinerary tweaks, don't overlook a crucial step: travel health advice. Especially when young ones are involved, their developing immune systems make them more susceptible to illnesses abroad. Heeding expert guidance before you depart can be the difference between a dream vacation and a stressful one for all the family, not only those who fall sick.

Your first port of call should always be your GP or family doctor. Google is great for many things, but would you put your trust in it for the health of your young ones? For simple advice, your local chemist can also be very helpful, and a mine of information.

There are also specialists in Child Travel Healthcare and we met Dr Nathalie Prevatt at a travel show recently who is a paediatric consultant in London specialising in travel and tropical medicine for children. She runs an NHS travel clinic for children with complex health conditions, and also has a private clinic.  For more information, check out these slides:

Also check out our "Travel Essentials", which you will find on each of our Destination pages on our website. These are filled with localised travel information, health tips and other advice, to help you prepare for your travels.
