Damaraland

Damaraland is a region of rugged beauty, characterised by its dramatic landscapes, ancient rock formations, and unique desert-adapted wildlife.

Located in northwestern Namibia, the area is home to Brandberg Mountain, Namibia's highest peak, and the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site, renowned for its ancient rock engravings. Visitors can explore the otherworldly landscapes of Spitzkoppe, with its granite peaks and natural rock arches, or venture into the Skeleton Coast, a hauntingly beautiful stretch of coastline scattered with shipwrecks.

Damaraland is also home to a variety of fascinating wildlife, including desert-adapted elephants, black rhinos, giraffes and smaller creatures such as reptiles, insects, and birds. These resilient creatures have adapted to the arid environment, and observing them in their natural habitat is a truly unforgettable experience.

The Damara people, one of Namibia's oldest indigenous groups, have inhabited the region for centuries, and their rich cultural heritage is evident in their traditional music, dance, and crafts. Visitors can learn about the Damara people's unique way of life through visits to local villages and cultural centres.
